The Parthenon of Zihuatanejo

Today, the Parthenon of Zihuatanejo or the Parthenon of Durazo is open to the public as a Cultural Tourist Center. It is inspired by the classic Greek Parthenon. It was ordered to be built as a beach house by Arturo “El Negro Durazo” Moreno, former chief of police during the six-year term of José López Portillo, from 1976 to 1982.

It currently belongs to the government of the State of Guerrero. It is an impressive addition to the landscape of Ixtapa Zihuatanejo.

It is said that its majesty is equivalent to the level of corruption with which it was built. It is said that, in addition to being built with public resources, El Negro Durazo used police (as masons) under his command to erect the building.

Playa El Palmar

Museo de sitio Xihuacan

You will discover that in ancient times, Ixtapa was a ceremonial center. Perhaps the most important of the Costa Grande of Guerrero. You can admire more than 800 archaeological pieces and pre-Hispanic figures, obsidian vessels, shell work, ancient necklaces and copper axes.

Tamakun Crocodile Farm
